Zelva: electoral meetings of opposition candidates are disrupted

In the morning of 4 September an electoral meeting with Ivan Sheha (a candidate of the Belarusian Popular Front Party) and Mikhail Karatkevich (a candidate of the Belarusian Leftist Party “Fair World”) were to have taken place at the engine yard of the “Synkavichy” enterprise in the Zelva district. The local mechanics knew about the meeting, which was to have take place before the beginning of the working hours.

The candidates came to the place at 7.10 a.m. However, the head of the enterprise prohibited them to hold the meeting, and the head of the engine yard suddenly went on a mission.

By the way, Ivan Sheha and Mikhail Karatkevich didn't manage to hold a single electoral meeting in the Zelva district so far. The local vertical purposefully blocks all such meetings and intimidates citizens with life problems and dismissals from work if they take part in these events.

At the same time, the pro-governmental candidate Ala Sopikava, who also runs in election constituency #58, is actively supported by the local authorities – they agitate for her, help to organize electoral meetings and demands that the heads of village soviets and heads of organizations bring people to them.

Ivan Shena and Mikalai Karatkevich composed an appeal to the Central Election Commission concerning the disruption of the electoral meeting at the engine yard.
