Baranavichy human rights defender Siarhei Housha has submitted a complaint to the Minister of the Interior, appealing illegal actions by the officials of Baranavichy city police department and Brest police chiefs.

The complaint argues that during election observation the human rights defender witnessed rigging of an election paper at the sitting of constituency election commission No. 5. Following the incident, Siarhei Housha addressed the Prosecutor of Baranavichy with a statement providing detailed description of the election fraud and asking the official to initiate an inspection. However, the prosecuting authorities evaded considering the complaint and redirected it to the police department of Baranavichy. The official reply said that the election paper referred to by the observer should be considered as a sample.

Being indignant at the absurd reply, on September 6 Siarhei Housha urged the police department of Brest region to re-check the allegations and assess the illegal actions by the city police.

On September 19 the human rights defender received a reply saying that there were no violations of the Electoral Code in the actions of the election officials and the police department of Baranavichy.
