Belarus CEC: Candidates may Count on TV and radio Prime Time

In Belarus, the candidates for the House of Representatives of the fifth convocation will be given prime time to speak on the state Radio and TV - from 17:00 to 20:00. This was announced by Secretary of the Central Election Commission of Belarus Nikolai Lozovik. According to him, the time may be different in the regions - it depends on the number of constituencies and the registered candidates there.

According to Nikolai Lozovik, the media will be able to manoeuvre to adjust the broadcasting network, BelTA informs.

The CEC draft resolution on the use of media in the preparation and conduct of elections discussed at the meeting with representatives from print and electronic media in Belarus. The CEC will consider this project in one of its meetings, said Nikolai Lozovik.

The CEC Secretary says there is little change in the order of the print media use during the election campaign. The resolution will provide the list of newspapers for candidates to publish their election programs, as well as the volume of programs and terms for submission to the editor’s office. Changes are related to radio and television, as candidates have the opportunity to participate in the debate, said Nikolai Lozovik.

The approaches to organizing and conducting pre-election speeches and debates of the candidates were developed during the meeting with media representatives.

In Belarus, at this stage of the campaign (up to July 6 inclusive) political parties and the republican public associations, as well as labor groups and citizens' groups nominate their candidates to the constituency commissions, the CEC said, recalling that one cannot nominate more than one candidate to the election commission.
