Biaroza activists dissatisfied with CEC’s reply
Siarzhuk Rusetski and Tamara Shchapiotkina, pro-democratic activists from the town of Biaroza, Brest region, have received a reply to their proposals on amending the electoral legislation.
The reply signed by Lidziya Yarmoshyna, chair of the Central Election Commission, says the current provision is legal, as she sees it logical to oblige each person of a group that nominated its representative to an election commission as an observer sign the appeal in case the nomination has been dismissed by the election commission. At the same time, the appeal may be signed by an authorized person, if the nomination has been submitted by a political party or an enterprise.
The activists, in turn, say the discriminative approach violates citizens’ right to appeal.
