Doesn't secretary of Central Election Commission know about nomination of “Belaya Rus” candidates?
The secretary of the Central Election
Commission Mikalai Lazavik expressed his dissatisfaction about the report of
the OSCE ODIHR.
The paper focuses on the fact that "Belaya Rus" intends to nominate
their candidates in almost all electoral districts. According to Lazavik, it's
impossible. Meanwhile, representatives of “Belaya Rus” have already started the
collection of signatures for their followers.
"The report says that the mission has information that "Belaya
Rus" intends to nominate candidates in almost all electoral districts. But
according to the Belarusian legislation, public organizations are not eligible
to nominate candidates for "deputies". This right is granted only to
political parties" – said the official.
Meanwhile, the official website of the NGO "Belaya Rus" reported
about the preparation in Minsk of the nomination of the chairman of the
Zavadski district organization Aksana Niakhaichyk
for a candidate for deputies of the House of Representatives. Pickets are organized,
signatures are being collected.
Electoral Code of Belarus allows members of civil organizations to nominate
themselves from labor collectives or by collecting signatures.
The chairman of the organization Aliaksandr
Radzkou in late June said: "At the meeting of the National Council we
approved a plan for preparation of the participation of institutional structure
"Belaya Rus" in the election campaign in 2012. In accordance with
this plan, we will support candidates of the NGO "Belaya Rus" and
those who share our constructive positions. "Belaya Rus" will
nominate their activists to work in initiative groups to collect signatures, in
the election commissions of all levels, as trustees of candidates and as
observers in the election commissions".
Incidentally, 106 members of the NGO “Belaya Rus” were already included to
district election commissions.
