Mahiliou democrats appeal non-inclusion in precinct election commissions

Activists of the Mahiliou regional organization of the NGO “Belarusian Popular Front “Adradzhenne” and the Mahiliou regional organization of the Belarusian leftist party “Fair World” applied to the Leninski District Court of Mahiliou.

They ask the court to abolish the ruling of the Leninski District Executive Committee of 6 August 2012 concerning the formation of the precinct election commissions and include representatives of the BPF “Adrazhenne” and the “Fair World” in them. The plaintiffs also ask to invite representatives of their organizations to an appropriate sitting and issue a private remark to the Leninski District Executive Committee concerning the violation of the electoral legislation.

According to human rights defender Barys Bukhel, some 15-16 people were included in most PECs. “According to the Electoral Code, some 4-19 people can be included in the PECs. The representative of the democratic parties weren't included for wire-drawn reasons, most probably, on an order of the higher authorities,” said Mr. Bukhel.

Bear in mind that the the sitting of the Leninski District Executive Committee at which the commissions were formed was held secretly so that observers wouldn't monitor it. No representatives of the democratic organizations of Mahiliou managed to get their either.

Bear in mind that 13 nominees of the BPF “Adrazhenne” and 26 nominees of the “Fair World” weren't included in the commissions.
