Viktar Karniayenka got stripsearched at the border
One of the coordinators of the campaign "For Fair Elections" was released only at 2 a.m.
As the website charter97.org previously reported, Viktar Karniayenka was detained at the
Belarusian-Lithuanian border. Politician was returning from Vilnius to Minsk.
According to his words, at the border checkpoint "Kamenny Loh" his
car was approached by people in uniform who took his passport and transfered
the car from "green" to "red" corridor. "Then I was
told that there is a resolution about the inspection of machine and personal
belongings. The car was directed to a box, when they carefully inspected it and
also all the things. Of course, they found nothing. Later I was told that there
is a resolution from Minsk about conduction of a personal search. I had to take
off clothes, all of it was also searched. I was carrying a small amount of
money, a phone, glasses, keys – that’s it. At the end they have found nothing,
and somewhere around 2 a.m.
I crossed the border"- said Karniayenka in his interview to BelaPAN.
He connects such attention to his person with the last campaign of election
observation. "Of course, this is connected with the elections and with my
participation in the CEC - I'm a member of the Central Election Commission with
the right of an advisory vote from the United Civil Party. That is why the
authorities use such moral and psychological pressure. There is nothing new in
this, however: before that I was searched like this every time when I was crossing
the border. Then it stopped for a while, and now, before the elections, it
started again. So I cannot connect such attention to me with nothing else, but
the election campaign", - stated Karniayenka.
