CEC: Prompts have no “legal significance”

“A mark in any box of a sample ballot paper has no legal significance,” says the Central Election Commission in its reply to a complaint by Maladechna observer Ales Kaputski.

The observer argued that at some polling stations of Maladechna the polling booths have sample ballot papers with a tick against one of the names, while the number and order of the candidates on the sample is identical to the actual election situation.

In particular, such samples were seen at polling station No. 81. According to the election commission head, they were sent by constituency election commission No. 73, i.e. they must have been posted in all the polling stations within the constituency.

Observer Ales Kaputski says the samples are indirect campaigning.
