Youth observers detained in Minsk
Several dozens of activists of the youth project
“Election observation: theory and practice” were detained on 24 September in Minsk.
One of the detainees, Maryia Sliaptsova, managed to tell it to human rights
defenders over the phone. According to her, the observers were detained near
the “Jazz” hostel in Shchadryn
Street in Minsk.
Among the detainees there are Ales Herasimenka, Ales Zayats and Anastasiya
Matchanka.
All of them were taken to the Tsentralny District Police Department in Minsk.
The project “Election Observation: Theory and Practice” is implemented by the
“Belarus Watch” youth center, the European
Humanities University
and the Belarusian Human Rights House in exile (Vilnius). The project has been preparing
youth to participation in election monitoring for the last five years.
